At Learning and Growing,
our teachers implement a program based on
the “emergent curriculum”. By this we mean
that the teachers observe and listen to the
children during their play. They are
looking for specific areas of interest in
which the children might be showing some
excitement or curiosity. From there, the
teachers plan activities based on those
interests while building on and/or
introducing new skills or concepts. As you
can imagine, the children are always more
willing to participate in the activities
when they revolve around their personal
interests. Therefore, you will notice that
every group will be doing different
activities based on their interests and
their developmental level.
Throughout their program
however, you can expect your child to
experience a variety of activities.
Possible activities include: cooking and
science, creative (arts and crafts), fine
motor (beading, lacing), large motor
(movement games), cognitive (memory games,
concepts), social (sharing, turn-taking,
etc.)
We encourage you
to discuss your child’s
program with their leader at any time.

field trips are pre-planned and require
parental permission as well as volunteers to
ensure the children's safety while away from
the centre.
From time to
time we also have special visitors who come
to the centre. These people always
have something special to share with the
children. Some of the visitors that we
have had include:
