Our Parents

Our Philosophy

We strive to work in partnership with the family to promote the healthy, optimal development of each child. We believe that parents play the most important role in their child's life. Daycare is not a replacement for parents but an extension of them and parents have a right to expect the best of care for their children when they are not with them.

Children learn through hands - on experiences and play situations.  We provide a safe and healthy environment for children which encourages independent exploration and experimentation within a variety of stimulating learning centers.  As Early Childhood Educators, we seek to provide a warm, nurturing environment for all children in our care.  We recognize that each child is a unique individual and we offer first hand experiences, together with adult guidance, in order that each child be encouraged to develop at his/her own pace.

The social connections which children form throughout the early years are an essential element in the process of learning the skills of cooperation and conflict resolution.

We believe that it is essential for children to be given the opportunity for social interaction that is both respectful and rewarding.  Also, the opportunity must be given to practice skills which assist in resolving the conflicts encountered daily.

It is our goal to assist parents in the process of raising independent responsible children.

   Our Goals

Children are provided with the opportunity for socialization by experiencing respectful, caring interaction with each other and with adults.

Children are provided with the opportunity to develop positive self-esteem through interaction as well as mastery of specific developmental tasks.

Children will have the opportunity to learn listening skills and express and channel feelings and needs.

Children will have the opportunity to develop a sense of responsibility.

Children will be challenged intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally in order to develop to the maximum of his/her potential.

Our History

Learning and Growing was initially established by a group of 8 parents concerned about the need for Daycare in their community.  On December 30, 1985, Learning and Growing Day Care was officially incorporated as a non-profit, government funded organization. The founding group of parents comprised the original Board of Directors.

The Centre acquired 3,100 square feet of space at 3659 Roblin Boulevard.  In 1991, the Day Care expanded its facility to provide Infant Care.  The center was licensed for a total of 48 spaces, 4 infant and 44 preschool.  A staff of ten Early Childhood educators where employed by the Center.

In the summer of 2006 the Day Care underwent major changes.  The staff and children  were relocated to a neighborhood school and community club as the entire center was gutted for renovation.  Upon completion of the renovation the Day Care increased to 5000 square feet.  The center was then able to increase the number of licensed spaces to 76. Of the 76 newly created spaces 12 spaces are for infants and 64 are for preschool.  Learning and Growing now employees a staff of 17.  With a new state of art facility and top notch programming Learning & Growing Daycare continues to be a leader in the  child care community.

Our Staff

At Learning & Growing we have a dedicated group of caregivers. Each and every day they offer a program that is fun, interesting, challenging and educational.  They focus on the development and growth of the individual child by providing inclusive programming in an animated, fun and caring way.  They are particularly cognizant of the social and emotional development of each child.

Our team has specializations in the areas of infant and toddler development, children with disabilities, applied management and American Sign Language.  We place great emphasis on education and training and attend many workshops and courses throughout the year including the annual Manitoba Early Childhood Conference.  We go to great lengths to help families and children through the trials and tribulations of early childhood and we have many great resources with helpful information.

Our pARENTS

Parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the operation of the Daycare in any number of capacities.  The Daycare is managed by a Parent Board of Directors and involvement at this level is welcomed.  The Board has a Fundraising Committee and from time to time, will enlist the assistance of parents in fundraising projects designed to improve our facility.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time for special events and outings.  We welcome extra hands on field trips and may approach you for assistance on a specific event.  On occasion, parents have access to items or events which may be of interest to the children.  We appreciate any resources you may have such as magazines, fabrics, other potential craft materials or items of interest.  Please approach any of the staff with ideas or suggestions you might have.

Although we are fully aware of the busy lives parents lead, we invite you to participate with your child in Daycare events. Your relaxed presence assures your child that Daycare is a fun, exciting place to be!

Parent communication is very important.  Parents should feel comfortable to bring any complaints or concerns to the staff.  We are very parent directed and feel that it is important to ensure that the families needs are being met through the centre to the best of our ability.  Phone calls to care givers as well as daily morning or evening chats with staff are encouraged.  The staff will be sending notes home with the children at least once per week.
